Remote starter kills engine
I installed a remote car starter this weekend. Initially everything appeared fne. I concealed the wires and reassembled the dash. Then the truck would not start either by the remote or the key.
It would turn over but not run. I removed the power lead to the remote and it started using the key. While the engine was running with the key, I plugged the unit back in and it killed the engine. Same scenerio when I stop the engine and plug the power lead back in. Both the remote and the key do not work. Any ideas??? |

Re: Remote starter kills engine
maybe you are shorting out the power to your ignition/distributor cap or whatever. try plugging it in and seeing if you are getting spark or not. this can be simply done with a timing light. put it on one of the plug wires and if it blinks then you are getting spark, and if nothing at all, then no spark.

What year truck? What brand starter? A good site to check to see if you've connected everything to the proper wires is....
http://www.the12volt.com They have alot of info laid out there as the which wires you need, and where to find them. Was this a starter/alarm combo that uses a starter interupt as a security feature? |
