4l60 Interchange, 95 S10 Blazer 4X4

I have a 95 S10 Blazer 4X4 w/ transmission leak(4l60e auto) i can get a 99 4l60e low mile and in good condition. Will this be a direct interchange.If not can it be easily modified? If not what years will interchange?

Will not work, different type of casting, also different electronics. If you have a PWM 4L60e(most likly you do) the '95 is unique, the '93-'94 is different, the '95 is different, and '96 and up is different.

actually the 93 and 94 will work in the 95 if you change the detent rod. (Running a rebuilt 94 in my 95 right now) The main issue with the 96 and 97 isn't so much the electronics as is the tailshaft is slightly different with the way it mounts to the transfer case. In order to put one on you have to very carefully grind it down to you can insert the transfercase. 98+ is where things become dicey because of electroncis. It's hit or miss...(same thing applies with the grinding though)

I agree it could work, but there are some things to take into consideration before you can verify interchangability ( in addition to those which you mentioned too). The '95 was the first year of the PWM TCC lock-up. The 4L60e before this (93-94) was a on/off lock-up and therefore did not require a PWM solonoid in its valve body. This also changed the the trans valve body wiring and the pin-outs at the connector. The 96 and up had a on/off system, but its shift patterns were different, and the TCC is engaged at a different time when compared to the previous versions. I know that some early '95s did not have the PWM style trannies and therefore yes you could use a '93-'94 tranny, but you have to check. Also I don't remember exactly but I think it was you can convert a '95 tranny with PWM into a non PWM tranny by changing the valve body and plate to a earlier version. This would make it a on/off lock-up and can be used with earlier version trucks. I read that somewhere, but I can't confirm cause I don't exactly remember. Yes too like Rilth said 98+ is something totally different, so that '99 tranny will not work. ALso another thing to take into consideration is the way GM incorporated all these changes, in that it wasn't clear cut and many things were carried over those years, so just because its a newer model doesn't necessarily mean its changed, the trannies on these trucks were no exception to this either. So you have to really look closely for replacement parts during those years, because some work and some don't.
