Waterpump is going bad..!!

My waterpump appears to be losing the battle. Leaking antifreeze now and it's getting worse. With the holidays and all, shops are booked.. so guess what... Buying Antifreeze every couple of days to keep the temp normal.

I got an estimate from some different shops..all say about $500 including labor. I went to Autozone and brought the Waterpump for 35bucks and the Manual. But when I found out I had to do the Timing belt also.. I scrapped the whole mission.. Besides, I've never done it before so O well...

Anyone in Orlando wanna make some cheese??

Re: Waterpump is going bad..!!

I paid my mechanic to change my water pump with T - belt for less than a $100 when I still had my DSM. If you can get a shop for $500 for a water oump and T-belt I think thats not a bad deal BUT, it would save you a lot of cash if you do it yourself. Water pump is not hard to remove and replace but do you know how to mark and replace timing belt ? Its not that hard, but you must do it perfectly or you might need to buy some engine parts when you try to start it You might need to replace timing belt tensioners depending on when you last changed em and the condition they are in, and your cars milege.

If you can do it yourself, I think you will feel better and save a lot of cash, but if you are mechanicly inclined a little, you might wanna get the car to a shop.

Re: Waterpump is going bad..!!

Yeah dude, I would suggest going for it if you know how to turn a wrench. I changed a water pump in a Buick... fuckin Buicks, that car ruined my Buick experince. I'll be god fucking damned if I ever buy a Buick! Anyway, It was pain in the ass for sure. The space down there was just big enough that we couldnt get the water pump out and the new one back in without dropping the engine mount. 5 hours of work, the $40 water pump, and the skin off of 5 knuckles later, that lady had a new water pump. My point is its fairly cheap and easy to do if you know what you are doing and dont buy a fuckin Buick.

Yep - He said that's an average.

If I can get someone to do it for me under $100 I would be very very happy. That's like finding a needle in a haystack im sure. I've never done any engine work so I think it's better if I get someone who knows what they are doing. I'll probably go to a machanic and pull him aside and see if he bites on that deal..

***Update***

I fixed the waterpump for 320 bucks. Runs good now and no more leaks..

And that's what counts..
