Newer Prelude VS Thunderbird V8

After shotting some targets, me and 4 of my buddies decided to head up to Hooters for some grub. I was praying to the car gods to make a fast car worth racing be on the freeway the same time as me. They answered with a 'modified' Prelude.

Merging onto the freeway came a white Prelude... lowered with a bodykit, dual fart cannons, and stock wheels. As soon as he got onto the freeway, I slowed down and paced him. This didnt get his attention. After we got around some traffic, and were next to eachother, I dropped it down into second and punched it. Went to click it in drive, and accidently put it into Neutral because I had my cell on the gear selecter (so I couldnt see what gear I was in..) I bet that got his attention. He quickly caught up, and began pacing us.

At about 55, I heard his H22 light up his dual carbon fiber Apexi fart cannons, and I clicked it into 3rd and punched it. He intially gained about a fender, but I gained it back as soon as I floored it. It took forever to get up to speed, because I had 4 other people in the car (probably 500 extra lbs. + me, plus my 4000lb car) By 110 we were still even. I gained maybe about a foot, but nothing to brag about. I knew he would "get me" though, because of my 117 limiter. I hit 117, and the Prelude kept goin. Well damnit. I could have probably walked him in the top end.. but oh well.. That was my fun for the night.

That sucks you have a speed limiter. That bird should be able to to pass 117 easy. You should see if you could get that removed. I know nothing about speed limiters but I would guess its programmed into the computer of the car. See if you could get that undone. Nice race though.

ford likes to limit their v6's to a low top speed, thats their way of saying "Screw you man! You shouldve bought the V8!"

And Ric(er) please take that off your sig, its starting to piss me, musashi, and drifty off.

Re: Newer Prelude VS Thunderbird V8

gotian, in this case his T bird is v8.

sorta related to this, my friend with a MarkVIII has it limited to 135, but hes getting a chip soon that limits it to 155 and 45 more hp apparently. All for 30 bucks cause his bro knows some ppl.

Re: Newer Prelude VS Thunderbird V8

that sux, i dont think i have a speed limiter...according to my analog speedometer i went 135 in my car, took awhile but got it there...that means i would beat u in a top end so far if u keep the limiter.....

Re: Newer Prelude VS Thunderbird V8

thunderbirds came with v8s,supercharged v6s, non boosted v6s, and the early 80s ones could even have a turbo 4cyl. yes his 4.6 is sohc

i dont know who'd buy a non boosted 6 in a tbird tho...

the turbo 4 cyl is actually quite an awesome engine too.

Re: Newer Prelude VS Thunderbird V8

Ford actually put the limiter in it for a few good reasons. From the factory, the tires werent rated to speeds much above what the limiter was. Plus these cars come with a weak drivetrain. A torque converter that "balooned" when spun at too high of RPM for too long, and a two piece drive shaft that would obliterate at high RPM's for a long time.
