Parts car?

I have an '84 Mustang L with t-tops and a 2.3L non-turbo four. The day after Christmas it caught on fire, caused by a fuel leak and faulty wiring. Everything in the engine compartment is pretty toasted. All the glass is good, one door is good, the fenders are good as well as the hood. It ran before it burnt up... what should I do with it? Clean up the fenders and hood and sell it whole or part it out?

I was kind of thinking about that, but I don't know where I'd find one. Plus I'd pretty much have to rewire the entire car which doesn't sound like much fun to me. I don't know, I'm really unsure of what I'm going to do with it...

Re: Parts car?

out of either an SVO, or a turbocoupe(thunderbird), ther is also a Merker that has the motor also (cant remember the name)

a 5.0 or 351 swap could also work...

Re: Parts car?

depends on how attached to it you are. More than likely you could get more $ out of it by parting it out and selling on e-bay, if the interior is still in good condition you might be able to sell the whole thing to someone who wants to throw a nice engine in it. being an 84 it probably needed new paint any way.

Re: Parts car?

how messd up is the car? if the fire was contained under the hood and that is it than i would drop in a 5.0 if you want to keep it. if the fire wrecked anything other than the motor, hood. i would part it out.

The interior isn't awful and the paint is bubbled so I have to strip it, sand it and prime it. Same goes for the fenders. The only problem with a 5.0L conversion is like front suspension and stuff. Wouldn't the spring rates be different for a 4cyl car? Along with braking and so on. I don't have a lot of money to put into this car. I kind of want to get my El Camino goin' and put that on the road. The car needs some work other than to repair the fire damage. I don't want to junk it, but I don't know of anyone who'd buy it.

Re: Parts car?

alot of people put 4 cyl. spring in the front of their windsor cars becasue they offer less resistance and allow for more wieght transfer. the back springs can be replaced with 8 cyl. springs out of a junkyard 302 car. if your willing to put the money in then go for it. it depends on how much it owul dbe worth to you. a running 5.0 complete engine out of a junk yard around here in michigan is 800$ about. you can put that in it and then add lets say 300$ for some new springs and shocks{go with comp. enginering or lakewood. nice and cheep} the car wont be very fast but it will run. add the cost of your body dammage and your lookin at probly close to 2k total with a macco cheepo special paint job. you can grab a 351w and c4/c6 trans on ebay all day long. they go for between 700-1000$ but its engin and trans. probly have to re build it but a 351w with new pistons and good h/c/i/ combo and you got yourself some power goin on. something you can do over the years too. stick in the stocker and build it up if and when you want more power.
