Angry Jeep Cherokee help, im completetly lost

my freind has a 1996 jeep grand cherokee laredo with the standard stock infinity audio sysyem with the amp under the back seat. Recently we bought a new stereo, amp and subs and im trying my best to hook them up but there are problems tracing which wires coming out of the stock amp match up with the stereo wires. i cut the 2 plugs leading into the stock amp and got rid of that completely. I didnt realize till i put the power back on in the car that doing this shut off all power to the gages in the dash, i have no idea y or wut to do!!! Please help!

Re: !!HELP!! Audio Wiring disaster!

i finally solved this bitch...basically i told the stock amp to fuck off and just attached the incoming wires to the outcoming and made the tweeters and door speakers attached to eachother...now with my 2 HE2 15" subs this system aint too bad

Audio problems

I too have the infinity system with the amp. Have blown a few speakers along the way and was told by numerous sources that you cannot utilize the factory wiring to install a aftermarket system. How or why this is possible I'm not sure but my nephew has the same system and he had to run all new wiring when installing an aftermarket unit. I wasn't even able to put in any other speakers other than the factory ones in my system. They just wouldn't work. Has me baffled like you!!!

Wutev...

Yea who ever they hired to do the jeep systems should be shot....basically the speakers to use need to be the pretty much the exact qualifications as the stock speakers and if u want a new face in u need to pretty much ditch everything the car came with exept the speakers, its a long fucked up process but when its good and done the acoustics in these jeeps are sweet.

Re: Jeep Cherokee help, im completetly lost

Hey I did the exact same thing except I am not using an amp. Just pulled out the amp and wired the new stereo directly to the speakers. The new system sounds great but now there is no power to the dash or dome lights when I open the door. Do you remember what you did?

I installed a new stereo not to long ago and had the exact same problems, my dash quit working completley. there is a fuse box by the front passenger door by the floor, check your fuses. I cant remember for sure what voltage it was but it was a yellow fuse that had to be replaced then all was fine again.

Guys...search the forum. This topic has been covered many times and there are schematics and specifications out there to get you back up and running. You don't have to ditch everything...just understand what you are dealing with.
