How much hp does a 88 305 auto firebird have? i was thinking about buy this one and it has cat back slp, 53,000 on rebuilt motor, new fuel pump and tank. The guy is asking $2,750, but he said he would take 2,500. is it worth it? it has REAL gta wheels also. it is in good shape, new tires, interior is in good shape also. What do you think?

What is the mileage on the rest of the car? $2500 sounds good so long as the car is good working order and not too bad cosmetically speaking. The horsepower rating according to my source is between 170-215 hp depending on whether it is a TBI or TPI and between 255-295 ft/lbs of torque. The numbers never sound very impressive but those motors are torque monsters, even the 305, and make all their power off the line at lower RPMs. If you don't plan on racing the car, then the 305 in a bird that is in good running condition wuld be great. If you want to race it you may want to look for a non-ragged 350. Either way, good luck and let us know what you end up doing.

Re: Re: 88 firebird

longtubes...but i dont know if its worth it and u have $100's to play with. If not just get a new lid, filter, and a TB. Or instead of the lid and filter you could probably just get a cool air intake. How much is your budget????

Honestly, I would wait for something else. The miles on the body are high, the 305 that is in it is hardly worth messing with...it would cost more to get minimal gains than waiting for the right car to mod. Plus, since it's a firebird and not a Formula or Trans-Am, the options it will have are minimal as well...power options for example. The only benefit would be the newer motor that hopefully hasn't been beat on like the average Trans-Am/Formula.

dude for maybe 4 grand u can pick up a high mileage LT1 with maybe a dent or two. You would have the power and a better looking car. But thats just my oppinion. search 93-97 formula and trans am...see if u like um.

Re: 88 firebird

i agree..wait for a nicer one. if you get a 4th gen, you dont have to worry about body rust at all!! and its more pwoerful too..(thats what i should have done)
i spend 2.8K on formula firebird, with the 350..then had the trans rebuilt for ~1K

Re: 88 firebird

ooh.. well you might be a little dissapointed with the kick its going to give you if its a TBI 305..unless its been worked. or if you get NOS..150K IS sort of iffy, but im pretty sure it can handle it if you really want a fun car get a small roadster w. manual trans :] cant beat nimble-ness sometimes... although it will be lacking power... :/ (usually)
