really depends on proper care and maintenance of previous owners, i bought a 90 ranger with 106K that was properly maintained, and i rodded the crap out of it, but changed oil every 2000 miles, greased and didnt have any major problems till about 190K when the intake manifold gasket went out, then it was all downhill from there, but it made it to 196K and it still runs great, though due to possibly a cracked block because i went to long before i fixed it, it will start overheating and push all antifreeze out the top of the overflow box if i drive it more than about 10 miles.
it has auto trans and the 4.0 motor. i changed all fluids and filters when i bought it.
some people say that trans for my year was weak, but i abused it, towed trailers way heavier than my truck in overdrive down the expressway at 75mph, it did get the tranny hot, and puked out some fluid, but i added more, and changed fluid and filter, and it was fine. never slipped or had any problems shifting. there was a additional tranny cooler installed when i bought it, not sure if aftermarket or stock. but i would always recommend installing an additional tranny cooler to any automatic tranny.
