Snow is no match
Let me just begin by saying that these civic hatches are awesome in the snow. Due to the heavy snow and ice that has pounded the east coast where about that I live, I have no problems WHAT SO EVER. This morning, the roads where covered with 1 inch of ice and about an inch of snow on top of that. Normally you wouldn't associate a small 4 banger to drive on the road very well with these conditions, but by god my hatch went. I actually was cruising about 30 in it with a chevy trailblazer behind me who was sliding all over the place. Then there was an incident where I was going down a long hill that leveled off at the bottom and started back up another hill. Alot like a U shape, I gave it gas and just plowed right up the hill with just alittle wheel slippage here and there but it went with ease. A 6th gen 4 door thought since I could go up, he could too, but being behind me, he couldn't make it half way up. By then I was just plain out amazed. I know I have all season tires (goodyear viva 2) but this car rocks. Maybe we should owe something to the canadians, eh?

Re: Snow is no match
My only problem when driving my CRX in the snow is initial traction when starting out, but after that, no problems whatsoever. I think that there is something wrong when my car which weighs probably about 2000 pounds is passing 3 ton SUVs on the interstate with 2 inches of snow on the ground.

I have no problems either. I live in idaho, lots of snow. I run 40 series low-pros all year around and travel over passes with 3+ inches of snow with no problem at all. Front wheel drive with siped tires rock.

Re: Re: Snow is no match
I don't think it's the car, it's the driver. I saw a moron spin out a 4wd chevy pickup and t-boned a Mercedes, that takes talent. 3 of the 4 vehicles I saw stuck were SUV's, those people drive those things like nothing will happen. Just because you have 4wd or AWD doesn't mean you can turn or stop any better.

Re: Snow is no match
And the small tires that cut into snow, instead of plowing over it. I just got home from my friend's house and there is about a half inch of ice covering everything. The only issues I had were (like clawhammer said) initial traction, but also taking sharp corners.

Re: Snow is no match
Piece of cake. Even in a crx that weighs less than 2000lbs. I'm glad I kept my spare in the back though just for a little extra weight distribution. I guess all those times purposely trying to break traction to get a feel for car control have paid off in my ability to know how to correct a minor slip of traction.
Yesterday was like rally. There was freezing rain (which is not that much of a big deal but here in the south it seems to be a nightmare). I went a backroad way to work because it's the normal way I go. I run into a snag with tree across road. So I go back turn down side street to go around and come to 4 way stop from different direction. I come down highway to see even bigger tree blocking road and wait and wait. Finally, I go back the way I came. Then go the other direction to try to get to that highway to get to the 4 way but that was simply a horsehoe road that brought me right back to where I was and I ended up going off the road to get around the tree that I initally didn't want to pass around. So I realized my foolishness, turned around went back off the road and around and got to the 4 way. So I cross over come to the bottom of a hill and no fucking way, a huge monster of a tree totally blocked the road. So I just had to head a totally different direction from that 4 way towards the city. It wasn't so bad from then on except for when there was a tree blocking the road and you could tell people went around it but there was a ditch so I did not want to risk it. I go down a side street, turn off a small access street which seemingly just went around that tree down, but there was another tree down between the two entrances of a church parking lot. So me and a CRV passed each other in the church parking lot to get around it. Then back on the highway. Car held up great except for when ice came off a truck in front of me on the freeway and nailed my roof taking the primer off down to the bondo. Fuck! That sucked. So I have a few things to tinker with this weekend... like always.

just be careful when braking, the brakes on my CRX love to lock, I've had problems with braking in the snow but not too bad, it's actually kind of fun as long as you don't have to do it too much. I only have to drive in snow when I go up to the mountains, because it's a warm 56 down here in the CA valley

Re: Snow is no match
i think its just that we civic and crx owners all went crrazy on our little 4 bangers when we first got them. me in example I was always taking sharp corners and pulling e-brakes here and there and still do it on occasion and i do it almost flawlessly almost automatic without thinking because there are some streets u cant get around and u have to liek go into a praking lot and turn around but i just choose to pull my ebrake and turn around right on the street. but either way I think were just used to the feel of our cars and we know how far we can push it before it will go insano/start sliding and whatever else there is to ice driving. i personally snowboarding about every week - this season i have gone ummm 3 times on my civic and it is lovely - im passing huge trucks and stuff all thew way up tthe long road with slow cars and trucks too scared to give it a little gas. there was this one guy that couldnt control his car so he started sliding backwards - everyone got out to "help" they pushed him into the opposite side of the road into the snow bank hopped back into their cars and left him ROFL. but yeh i luv my civic either way. oh and i use those fr4eaking 20 dollar tires u can buy anywhere. haha they rock. oh and there was this other moron that would peal out everyone tried to pass him and i think it was a 6 banger but i dont reemember exactly wut car it was and so everyone was getting pissed off becuase he was liek shooting rocks and snow everywhere while peeling out so i get on the side of this idiot and give it a little gat and this guy start peelign otu like crazy (it was on snow) and im just driving along slowly passing him and hes going histaric because my ltitle pimp ride is passing him. and once he realized he had no chance against my civic he gave me a rock on sign. haha -0 but i still thought he was a moron becuase when we reached the parkign lot he just turned around and went back down i was like w.t.f
