household product to clean steering wheel?

my steering wheel is filthy with caked on dirt. i was thinking maybe a 3 to 1 solution of water & rubbing alcohol would do the trick but i am concerned it may eat away at the steering wheel as it already has that common 'cracking' around the circumference.

or am i better off just buying some armor-all or any other popular interior cleaning product? thanks.

I use Formula 409 or Fantastik on my steering wheel, and it does a great job at removing the grime. It is not recommended to use Armor-All on steering wheels, or your brake, clutch, or accelerator pedal, as the Armor-All can leave a slippery residue and create a dangerous situation. I remember many years ago, I had to bring a customer's car in the shop from the parking lot to work on it. The bosses' son had just finished cleaning the interior of it as it was a " friend of the boss' " car, and the kid was working there for the summer doing odd jobs. Well I got in the vehicle, it was a Ford F150 and nearly fell out of the truck as he had Armor-All'ed the whole interior including the vinyl seats, and rubber floor mat, (no carpeting.) Now I know why they put those warnings on the bottles
