Angry Slow start.

I have a 96 maxima automatic with a cone instead of a regular air filter, I also have a cat-back exhaust system. My problem is when I stay still and I want to peel out and accelerate very fast sometimes (usually) the car doesn't do a lot, but only starts slowly. The tires don't even want to spin, I have a 17 inch rims with low profile tires, but I don't believe that this would cause the car to be that much slower. It was fine before. If anyone has any idea what to do please let me know. Thanks!

Do you slam down hard on your pedal when you are stopped? If you do then that might be common since Maxima's have a lag in the auto trannies. Does it feel like your not moving then oyu start to take off? It's there to make the shifting between gears smooth for more of a luxury feel. But it also might be other stuff like...clogged fuel filter, clogger intake filter, etc.

I have an automatic 96 maxima also... dude you need to be careful with your transmission. BABY IT...esspecially with a tranny that age. Try not to do that too much. Have you been doin it a lot before. If so, your tranny is starting to get worn out. becareful it, if you take care of your car, then it will take care of you. One thing that will help is when you are driving normally, likethrough town, right before you hear/feel, your transmission get ready to shift, ease back off the accelerator, this give it a chance to shift easier, adn smoother (without that thump you somtimes feel)....just remember..BaBY Your Transimission....

I agree with the above post. Maxima trannies especially the 96 are not that strong. I have a 96 se stick and my tranny was replaced at a mear 70k. I didn't have the car for half of that and the half I had I took care of it. So unless you want to come up with the couple grand to replace/rebuild I would take it easy. trust me it is not easy to f*ck up the tranny.

your rims play a big part especially if they are heavy.
the cone filter in an automatic only gives you a bit more on the top end, but takes away from the low end (taking off). unless you redline a lot(mash the go pedal) the filter isn't helping you at all.

Also his Cat back exhaust isn't helping is low end either. Combine the two, Cone Filter PLUS the Cat back Exhaust and there's his loss of low end power. Toss in heavy 17" rims - Car looks great, sounds great, but aint going to fast off the line!!!

He's setup for all top end power.

exactly.

szymek25c, you are going to have to torque brake or use the parking brake to take off fast(raise up the RPMs) in a race situation if you stay with those mods.
