Cant get my truck to start or have power

Recently rolled it on to it's side, and after getting towed home I would try to start it, I just got a clicking sound, So figured battery is gone or solenoid, I reaplced the soloenoid and the clicking sound went away, but I still had power, so then I bought a new battery and my battery terminas were ruest out and corroded so one snapped a bit, and now I have no power or anything, so I bought new terminals and while trying to hook up my new solenoid again it stripped a screw and snaped the old one in half. The new terminals for the battery are on and fit great, question is does an unhooked up solenoid keep the truck from having power ???.

Also, how do you get a bolt off with one of those locking washer's

thanks

Sounds like a BAD day, no your starter solenoid will not keep you from getting electrical power to the other circuits of your vehicle. It will of course keep your starter from getting power. If nothing electrical will work in your car whatsoever, you might not be getting a good connection with your battery cables, they might be good at the battery but they can still be loose at the other end. I would use a 12 volt test light if you don't have one they are only a few dollars at an auto parts store or wal marthook the alligator clip the the negative side of the battery and follow the positive cable and test for voltage at the other end of the cable. do the same with negative cable with the clip on the positive side. As for getting a bolt out with a lockwasher, a lockwasher should not prevent a bolt from coming out, only keeps vibrations from loosening it

Yea I figured as much, hmm I figured if the solenoid was unhooked it would keep the power from coming to the truck, wierd. I had to cut the old terminals because one was complely rusted through and extremly corroded, So now that I know it is not the washer, there a tool that can remove a bolt on an messed up thread ?

if the other wires that go to the solenoid are bad, that will cause you to have no power!!

I think thats it, I finally after 10 mins with a handsaw got the bolt off and the old solenoid off, I notived while putting my battery terminals on, as I attached them, I saw a poof of smoke and what looked like a spark, the solenoid wires were touching each other, Im guessing they blew themselfs out ? If so how hard is it to put on new solenoid terminals ? can you do that ? and how much $$$...

Thanks again.

Must get the truck moving before 5pm monday.

Re: Cant get my truck to start or have power

First off,you should disconnect the battery ground (-terminal).A spark here could REALLY ruin your day.Seeing as there only three wires on the solenoid, it shouldn't be too hard to sort out.Large wire from bat.pos.(+term.) to lug closest to bat.,large wire that goes to starter motor on the opposite side big term.,and small wire to small term. I would get a new cable that goes from bat pos., to solenoid, then you only have two ends to replace.
