I Have A 97 Jetta 4.0 Engine, And The Darn Thing Won't Start. I Had One Guy Tell Me It's The Ignition Coil, But I've Worked On Cars For About 6 Years, And I've Never Heard Of An Ign Coil Going Bad Before. It Turns Over, So I Don't Think Its The Starter, Could It Maybe Be Th Fuel Injection System?

Re: 97jetta Won't Start
I didn't know there was a 4.0 Jetta ever
The coil goes bad in vw's, so it's possible. Odds are the check engine light is on, so have the codes read at the local parts house (autozone, kragan, pep boys...) Or, start the car and spray the coil with water (use a plant mister bottle, not a garden hose) and if it's arcing out on the engine, the coil is bad. |

There is no such thing as a 4.0 1997 Jetta..... biggest engine out of the factory was a 2.8l VR6..... which came with the GLX model.
