transmission limp mode p0700 and p1787

The sol pack gasket was leaking on my 2000 v-6 stratus, so i pulled the sol pack and replaced the gasket. When I put it back together I forgot to plug in the input speed sensor and drove it down the road. It went into limp mode (2nd gear and reverse only) right away. After I thought about things I thought about the input sensor plug, so I took out the tcm and installed the plug. Things seemed to be working fine for a couple of trips, and then the same thing happed again, check engine light came on and back into limp mode. Drove it a couple of more times and sometimes it would work fine, others it would be in limp mode. Once it even suddenly downshifted into 2nd gear and stayed there until I turned the key off, then it was fine. Anyway, I pulled the codes and got P1787 and P0700. From what I can tell P1787 says bad downshift from 2-1 but it happens sometimes even before a down shift. The speedo still works so it can't be a bad output speed sensor. Is there a better way to nail down the exact problem? I'm praying its not the sol pack, cause that stupid thing is $200 from the dealer here. Everything was working fine before I replaced the gasket.

Re: transmission limp mode p0700 and p1787

P0700 means trans controller internal failure. The transmission control module has detected an internal fault and thus has popped that code. I suggest clearing the code and see if it's a hard code, meaning, see if it appears again. If it does, you might need to visit your dealer and get your trans module flashed, usually they do that anyway when you do work around the solenoid pack, but they can do per your request for around $90.

Also, can a snap on scanner do that? Is is a reprogram or a re-learn?

Re: transmission limp mode p0700 and p1787

you can do a quick learn for the trans controler on the snap on scanner but its not a reflash for the computer. Quick learn helps out the nasty bumpy hard shifts. I have seen a few TCM go south also
