Question Low Fuel Indicator Light Issue....

I have a 2001 Tacoma S-Runner and the Low Fuel indicator light doesnt glow when I am low on fuel. Is there a fuse that needs to be replaced? Thanks...

Re: Low Fuel Indicator Light Issue....

I don't think there is a fuse for that light alone. It may share a fuse with some other circuits. If the fuse is bad you should see some problems other than the low fuel indicator light. Sorry I cannot give a better answer, I don't have access to a wiring diagram. Maybe moving your question to the top will get a better response.

Re: Low Fuel Indicator Light Issue....

Sounds like the problem could possibly be a bad relay in the dash. The relay may not be completing the circuit to activate the indicator. I would recommend reviewing the wiring diagram and test the electrical circuits.

Re: Low Fuel Indicator Light Issue....

Although I don't have a wiring diagram for a 2001 I did look at a Haynes drawing, it covers up to 2000, and there is no relay in the circuit. As I suggested there is a shared fuse. It is the gauge fused and if it is bad all gauges should also be dead.

I have a 2004 entended cab SR5 and have not seen the low fuel light even though I have run it until the gauge shows empty. However the tank is supposed to hold 16 gal. and it takes less than 14 gal. to fill the tank when the gauge shows empty. My question is, does my truck actually have a low fuel indicator? The owners manual dances around the issue by saying, "If the fuel warning light comes on fill the tank immediately" or words to that effect. I don't yet have a shop manual to check the circuit.

Re: Low Fuel Indicator Light Issue....

I think the tank capacity may have changed over the years. My 2004 is supposed to hold 16 gal. according to the owners manual.
The 2000 brochure indicates 15.1 gal. or 18 gal. depending on the model.
