Always winterize before winter!!!!(I'm Back)

So I'm back after a small hospital stay. Not 4 me. My son had surgery. And it took a week in the PICU for recovery. The Entire time he was in I put about 500 miles on the blazer. She ran like a top. we had a follow up appointment today, went out started her up went back in got my self and my son ready. Went out Antifreeze everywhere. Temp gauge pretty high. Duh!! I never replaced the radiator cap and thermostat when I did the Intake gasket. Got the shit I needed, grabbed a screw driver and a rachet out and in new hose too and new coolant/anti-freeze 30 minutes Flat.
My diagnosis is, Due to the shitty cap and faulty thermostat (by the way that one had holes drilled in it from previous owner). I had air pockets in the system and when the liquid rose in temp condisation was created. and when the truck was off, over time ice formed in the heater core and caused a blockage. Luckily it just over heated and ran out thru the overflow. And as far as I know no damage was caused to the rest of the system. This is my retarded mistake. I put it off an off til I forgot about it all together. Then It turned out to be an inconvenience. Rather than a routine fix.
And yes I got the STANT.

Oh yeah, the procedure was or is called a "Nissen". Its when they wrap the stomach lining around the oesophagus. Sounds funky, right? He has severe "acid reflux". Also Infantile spasms, a serious seizure disorder. I'll post a pic of him someday. he is a year and a half. but we are kickin ass now!! went for a lil wintertime cruise 2 day. had a blast. again the blazer is running topps . 4wd works awesome. still have that little clunk in front right but o well ill deal with that after xmas.

Re: Always winterize before winter!!!!(I'm Back)

Hope that your son heals up quickly

I can kinda relate to the winterize problem, my T-stat is opening prematurely, so I'll have to change it tomorrow. It's only been on for 6 months, so I'm suprised.

It's -16 celcus out side right now. Probably warmer than BlazerLT's, but still cold.

I think that I'm going to drive it around foe a while to warm it up first.

Re: Always winterize before winter!!!!(I'm Back)

Girlbear, if you are getting ice in your heater core, it isn't from condensation, it is from your coolant being too weak.

Re: Always winterize before winter!!!!(I'm Back)

I agree with BLT , Girlbear ,are you using a premixed coolant or straight stuff ? Glad your boy is doing fine now . That sounds like a real challenge in every day life . I am amazed and admire you for all that you have to deal . And still have time for us and your Blazer . Rob
