Which Heads to use on a SBC

IM building a 383 this winter and im not to sure on which are the best heads to run? Ive done some research and i found that the dart aluminum heads are pretty good, but i also heard that aluminmum heads really arent that much different, so if anyone could help me out that would be great.

Hey there,
I don't really have any specific recomendations, But I have heard the same thing. Alumenum and Iron heads are not all that different except in weight. Its all in whats done to them. If you are interested I have a set of cast iron heads that are bare. They are origenal 487 chevy heads. I have read on the internet that these heads have lots of potential. they are bead blasted and fluxed. If you want more info, ill post it.

i turning my car into a real street car and i just put a ford 9in in couple weekends ago with 4:11 gears 28 spline moser axles, also with traction bars , also disc brakes all around, but now im putting a new floor in the car. then i will put the roll cage and racing seats and belts in later on this winter. While im doing that i will be building a 383 stroker motor with about 12.1 comp. eagle 4340 crank, h-beam rods, je forged pistons, proly dart heads 2.05's 1.60 or omthin an edlebrock air gap intake with a king demon carb. electric water pump and such i was told with some where around that combination it should make around 600+ hp. which the cr should run low 10's i hope but will see. But if you find anything else out about heads just let me know.

sounds awesome, Sounds like you should be able to reach the 600 mark. I am hopefully on my way to around 375-400 hp in my 71. I have a decent 4-bolt main 350, but it needs a better cam and some work done on the heads. One thing I did, and would highly recomend if you havn't already, is put a full electronic ignition. I bought the MSD box and distributer and it was like night and day, not to mention better gas mileage. for a motor like the one you will have, you will need it.
