Distributor Help
So we put a brand new distrubtor and cap on and we can't get it to start. I can see it turning and it does wind up but it wont start up. The current book I have sucks and it doesn't tell me at all how to adjust the distrubutor or what needs to be adjusted. I'm also not too sure of how the pistons need to be aligned.
Any suggestions? I have a Sohc 1.6L ZC non-vtec, I believe that's the d16? Thanks

Re: Distributor Help
the distributor can only go in one way. the only possible way is to have it 180 but then it wouldnt sit flush with the head.
where did you get the new distributor from? are you sure its wired correctly? |

it's wired the same way the old one was. the only draw back was they gave us the wrong one hte first time. it was a 7 pin instead of a 5. we ended up spinning the threads off that. so now we're having issues figuring out how to align the pistons.

I'm guessing it's obviously a problem with setting the timing proper since we tried to start it up previously with the wrong distributor. My question I suppose is how do I set everything the correct way? I'm having trouble seeing if everything is at TDC when we put the distributor on. The cap was wired up from the original so I'm pretty sure that's all good.

Re: Distributor Help
theres only 1 way you can put the distributor on, it makes sure the timing is accuarte and and you dont put it off

Re: Distributor Help
it doesnt matter if the timing is off you dont need to adjust it as long as you never took the timing belt off or the head if your just replacing the distributer you dont need to set the timing

Re: Re: Distributor Help
so perhaps it's a bad distributor? we realized that it was missing the roder cap so we picked one up. it's still not firing up. we never took the belt off or the head. i'm probably gonna tow it to a mechanic tomorrow although i feel dumb as hell because i realize this should probably be an easy task. thanks for the info guys
