I could use a straight answer.

Hello everyone,
I know its been talked about not but a million times before, but I could use some honest help. I bought my 00 cvpi about two months ago and now I'm looking at starting to build it up a bit. Now I've read up on this before and it always seems to stirr up debate...does the FIPK really work? Some say no some say yes, and both sides seems to have good arguments. All I'm requesting is a few guys to give me a straight answer on if I should install one or not. I'm not looking to install a MM airbox unless someone can honestly tell me that it adds more than 3 hp. I'm also going to be doing all my mods at 17 on a Domino's pizza maker salary so cheaper is better if at all possible.

Thanks guys,
Adam

Re: I could use a straight answer.

The straight scoop is that the MM airbox (and required reprogramming of the PCM) WILL definately add more than 3 RWHP, I have seen as much as 12 RWHP. On your '00 CVPI the programming STINKS, so you should see 12ish RWHP if not a little more.

Now, it is MY opinion, that anyone who wants to improve performance of a FORD product needs the PCM blessed by the folks at "SCT". That said, on YOUR car, if you want the most bank for the buck, find an '01 or newer wrecked Mustang or CV/GM and get the intake manifold off it, and install it (with your OLD gaskets!) onto your engine. For about $20, and 1/2 days labor you will add 10-13 RWHP to your car. Yup, that simple. If you have SCT "bless" your PCM, then you will see *up to* a 25 RWHP gain at 6000 RPM (remember that that number is deceiving because with the stock intake power falls off FAST over 5300 RPM). You definately SHOULD do the MM airbox mod if you replace the intake, but it is not REQUIRED, and may be done at a later date with no ill affects.

I installed a 4" CAI on my '99 CVPI which had superior programming, and it really did not do anything on the dyno. Neither did installing a NEW factory oiled K&N. In fact, I lost 1 RWHP for doing it.

ModMech Thanks,
My composite intake cracked and I already replaced it with a new one, I take it that is the same mod you are reffering to. Your saying that the FIPK doesn't do anything and I'll go along with that. The SCT option is one that I will pursue in the immediate future I already use synthetic oil which I'm told adds a little but its still more than nothing. Does a ported upper intake plenum do as much as they say it does, that and will a ADTR 75mm throttle body do the wonders that is promised?

Thanks again,
Adam
