96 buick century

I have noticed the resovoir (sp) will not keep the anti freeze in it ....I do not see any leaks. This has been going on since about may 2005. Yesterday my car started running hotter than usual....when I pulled off the road I opened the resovoir and saw smoke and just a drip or two of any liquid left.....I poured antifreeze in the resovoir and went on my way. No more problems......got home and smelt the obvious radiator smell. Today I checked for leaks.....(I think I see a small leak now)...saw white smoke (not alot) and a small amount of liquid come from the muffler......HELP!!! What does this mean???

It means get it to a shop that can check the coolant loss and proceed from there, before real damage is done!!

Re: 96 buick century

Wait until the engine is cold, and check the fluid level in the radiator. The radiator is fed by the overflow bottle to supplement the fluid loss. By filling the plastic over-flow bottle, you may not be completely filling the cooling system, and therefore the engine may run hotter. A little fluid out the tail pipe may be condensation, which is normal. Keep an eye on your oil as well. If the head gasket is faulty, the water may mix with the oil, which can turn the oil into a milky color.
Good luck.
