Recently purchased 96 tahoe...Love the truck nice shape 101000 miles, but have a cutting out issue...After 45 min of driving car cuts out completely at low speed ( around town ) and ALL POWER is GONE....no lights no accessory no nothing...after coasting off to the side of the road 30 to 45 seconds later the power seems to reset dash lights and tones return and she starts up and I drive away......hard to troubleshoot. Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated....or maybe this is somthing others have experienced....Thanks in Advance for any info...

Re: 96 Tahoe Cuts out for about 45 sec.
Sounds like something my mothers 99 MonteCarlo did. The dealership couldn't figure out what it was after multiple visits. They ended up getting a REAL GM guy to come look at it. Ended up being something silly. The way the plug wires were running put one to close to some kind of sensor that caused the computer to think the car was running well past what it actually was. Something like 200+ MPH and well above redline on RPM. Usually happend at takeoff. She would die at traffic lights and stuff like that. Then the car would just start back up as if nothing happend. The computer was just shutting the car down do to the bad signal it was getting from the plugwires.

Re: 96 Tahoe Cuts out for about 45 sec.
Had the exact same thing happen to my 95' turned out to be the battery cable end, the factory end was bad, couldn't see anything wrong but when checked with a ohmn meter had a high resistance.replaced it, all fixed.
good luck Mike |
