carb question

i got a sucking sound coming out of my carburetor, im guessing its a vacuum leak? its a 64 nova w/ rochester monojet. i pulled the hose off the round gold piece and put my thumb over it and i heard all the sucking stopped and my car died lol. its idling really low to begin with, and i got this big hissss sucking sound coming out the hole in the top of the carb.

Re: carb question

lol yeah thats what carbs do dude. If you take the air cleaner off, youll hear something. maybe even with it on. completely normal. try reading up on the carb and trying to tune it. that should help it run better. if that dont work, then get a rebuild kit. they arent really hard to do, just be careful not to mess something up. ive had to rebuild my holley before and everyone sed holleys were the most difficult ones to do, but it was easy as cake.

if i was you i would just try to tune it, prolly all it needs lol

Re: Re: carb question

i was just out there and it actually only has 1 screw to adjust, its a rochester monojet. i looked all over and it only had 1 adjustment screw, i screwed it in half a turn and couldnt get it to start, so i backed it back out then brought it out half a turn and it started but didnt idle any higher, it still was about to die. its idling at 300-400 rpms barely staying running. it was running fine until i changed the plugs and wires, think that has anything to do with it?
