Gas tank / Gauge

I was wondering if something is wrong. 99 blazer 2dr ZR2, according to the owners manual the tank holds 19.0 gal. When my gauge is at E and the on board computer says low, I go and fill up. It will usually only take 13 or 14 gal., 14 if im lucky. Did the wonderful engineers at GM make a reserve this high or do i have other problems. Just filled the work truck 2002 s-10 p-up with a 2.2 same thing 13.544 gal. I also tried swaping the insturment clusters and get the same results. And yes i had a friend re- flash the odometer afterwards.

Can't help on your question, but I can sympathise. My '97 shows Empty with 3.5 - 4 gallons left in the tank (also a 19 gallon tank that reads empty and takes only 15 gallons).

My family truckster, an '04 Chrysler Town & Country has the gas pump light go on on the cluster at 16 gallons for a 20 gallon tank.

An overall Gas Gauge Conspiracy by the Big 3??????

Re: Gas tank / Gauge

Mine does the same thing. I show very low and the Low Fuel light comes on when I need about 14 or 14.5 gallons.

Re: Gas tank / Gauge

GM does this because if you run out of fuel you are more then likely going to suck some sludge off the bottom of your gas tank which is bad, or worse case scenario, fry your fuel pump as it uses the fuel to cool it self. So yes the gauge reads off but it is better it reads the way it does then if it read the other way!!!!!
