Steering column light?
This summer, I obtained a 97 Jeep Wrangler and got it running great. The battery died on me the other day. I changed it last night and when I did, a red led light flashes on top of the steering column. It flashes pretty fast. Before I replaced the battery I did not have this light. Does anyone know what this light is? Perhaps this is an aftermarket theft detterant? I was just wondering if anyone knew if this is stock on the 97's. Also strange is that it didnt come on until after I changed the battery. When you turn the car on the light goes out. When the car is off the light is on. I would have more info for you but its 20 degrees in Cleveland and I changed it late last night. Brrrrr. Anyone info would be greatly appreciated. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

Re: Steering column light?
Does the light flash every once and awhile? I have seen these on vehicles with security systems, and also on vehicles with no security other than the blinking light. It might pay to take a look (when the weather warms up) at the wiring going to the light. I had a '97, and it didn't have anything like that so it may be aftermarket. Does the light look like it was installed at the factory?

Thanks for your reply. No it blinks very fast, thats why I questioned it in the first place. I know that most security sys's blink just once and a while. It is a good installation, thats why I thought it may be factory. But it doesnt seem to be if yours didnt have it. I will trace the wire harness and see what I come up with. Thanks for the info. It doesnt seem to be draining too much juice from my battery, that was my main concern. Thanks again. -Tom |
