2005 Taco Manual Transmission
Hello All,
New to the group and the Taco family. I bought a 2005 Tacoma back in April of this year. The Taco has 9000 miles on it and appears to be running great. The truck has the 6cyc 6 speed tranny extended cab with the 6' bed and off road package. I guess over the last 2 - 3 weeks on my way home from work on the hi-way the tranny was slipping out of gear. I noticed it more in 4th and 5th gear and at times in 6th gear. The stick just comes out of gear and goes into neutral. I have been monitoring this activity but there appears to be no rhyme or reason as too why this happens. It's purely random. What I have done during shifting is that I make sure that I am in gear before I come off the clutch and the problem still persists. Has anyone out there heard or have had this happen to them? I'm trying to re-produce this issue so that when I take the truck to the dealer they fix it, but I have not been succesful. Question: Are there adjustments that can be made to prevent this? OR do I have to wait until this problem just breaks for good? TIA, Paul |

Re: 2005 Taco Manual Transmission
I have not experienced shift problems with a Tacoma transmission but have owned several cars that jumped out of gear. It seems to happen more often when you are slowing down. Unfortunately, most transmissions have their shift linkage enclosed inside the transmission and require dis-assembly to adjust or repair. Most of my previous problems were caused by worn shifter forks. Bent shifter rails could also cause the transmission to jump out of gear. I assume yours is a factory defect, I would at least get it checked by your service department. Try to get them write it up to start establishing a record of the problem. If the Toyota policy is to replace defective transmissions rather than repair them they may suggest you continue driving it until it gets worse. They usually do get worse. In any case it isn't right and should be corrected.
