something similar happend to my montana, the clock kept resetting and the time wouldn't hold.. took it to the dealership and this is what they found: " radio bad wire circuit, behind instrument panel chaffed".
this could be your case too, if you haven't checked that yet...

John,
How comfortable are you working with electronics? I'd suggest removing the radio, assuming you can get to it - I've yet to figure out how to get to my 2003 Montana radio! Once you get it out, I'd remove the covers and see if there are any wire "bundles" that go from the main circuit board to the display. One of them might be loose, so you might try carefully prying the connectors apart and re-seating them. Another ugly possibility is that a circuit board might have a crack in it that is causing the intermittents. GM (Delco) used to have an radio exchange program that was somewhat reasonable if the radio isn't fixable. Hope this helps...Glen |

There was a post on here awhile ago about this problem and it's what I came on here looking for now. It stated that there are "Light Bulbs" soldered inside the radio and are a replacable part but they need to be resoldered.
Why Light bulbs in this day and age is beyond me but if it is the case I'll post a full description after I chainsaw the dash out of this thing! |

My problem with the light bulb was that it was burned out. It wasn't soldered in but twists out by turning the base of the bulb. Approx 7.50 Can.
