Professional Injector cleaning at a dealer

Does anyone know the procedure, products use, and effectiveness of getting a 'professional' injector / fuel system cleaning ?

It seems to run about $150 bucks and would like to know what THEY use -vs- running various products like Techron, 3M Fuel system cleaner etc ?

They say it will restore them to "like new" condition. I have the step by step procedure, if you PM me your email, I'll send it to you. It is a 14 page TSB that also shows how to replace the CSFI with the new poppitless MFI if the injector cleaning doesn't work. If anyone else wants it too, just let me know,

Just buy a bottle of GM top end cleaner or Seafoam and you will get the same results..

Are you having any problems? Rough idle, misfire..?

The GM top engine cleaner and Seafoam can't give the same results if you have a stuck poppit, they can only clean where they can flow. The professional cleaning uses 150 psi of compressed air to get the poppits working properly before they use the top engine cleaner. The power cleaning isn't necessary if you aren't experiencing any problems. If you are just wanting to clean them for preventative maintenance GM recommends GM Fuel System Treatment p/n 12345104, they say that it is the only thing that will have any effect, but I have had pretty good results using Techron. I add two bottles and top off the tank. Each bottle only treats up to 12 gallons, so a double shot isn't a bad concentration and it keeps you from having to run the tank low. I haven't used seafoam or the GM top engine cleaner but a lot of guys on here like them.

Next time I'm going to try the GM fuel system treatment and see if it works better than techron.

Thanks my friend...Got your email and it's very complete.

I am not experiencing any problems but when I had the dealer install a new delco fuel pump the tech said the only thing he'd suggest would be a "fuel system flush" i.e. clean the rails, and injectors.

I am only investigating as 1) what is involved, and 2) what special chemical is needed etc....

Now using a product like Techron will there be any issues associated with harming anything ? etc....speculate that too strong a solvent could be adverse...just wondering...your insight/experience is appreciated.

I have a 1994 Jeep 4.0 that never had any injectors replaced or cleaned, and with 170,XXX miles it still runs great. Are Blazer injectors more trouble prone? Doesn't anyone have a similar experience with a Chevy or is it just a Jeep thing?

My Blazers still have low miles so I hope to hear what the people with high mileage have experienced.

I never go to bargain, no name gas stations only the big 3. Some say it doesn't matter but my trouble free experience is good enough proof for me. The better brands already put cleaners in the fuel.

I have never had any problems using techron, and I'm not aware of any problems associated with it's use other than (as with any fuel additive) excessive and frequent use will cause deposits to form on the spark plugs.

I just spent about 30 minutes web searching and wasn't able to find anything negative about techron, other than one guy stating that his mechanic said it might harm his catalytic convertor. There were a lot of people praising it, though. I did see that they sell Techron in 20 oz bottles, so using two 12 oz bottles isn't necessary.

There were a lot of people complaining about Seafoam fouling their plugs. Seems to me that just means it was working, though, even if it is just "glorified mineral oil".

The main problem with the blazer injection system isn't the injectors, it's those damn poppit valves. They clog pretty easily.

All gas producers are required by law to use certain additives, but some only add the bare minimum. One of the sites I just searched through said that 50% of gas is poor quality as compared to the companies that put quality over profit.

My dealership mechanic told me to use the Techron. they showed me the bottle of the "GM" cleaner. If you look real close at the bottle/label it will have the chevron symbol on it somewhere. You'll pay $25-$30 USD for it at the Dealership but only $8-$10 at the Autozones etc.

Yeah I noticed that it's made by Chevron, interestingly, wonder if it's the same stuff in a different bottle....wonder if the msds would show that...thanks for the tip

In case you haven't done it yet and for anyone interested......I looked up the MSDS for them. They are a little different. The GM fuel system treatment has a few more ingredients.

From looking at the MSDS these two products look similar. I haven't analyzed them though so I cannot say for certain.

If anyone wants to send my a mL or so I could run an analysis and see how similar these products are.

Fuel system cleaner is what pushed my almost craputsky CPI over the cliff. That said, I may use it again.

I had a fuel system cleaning done on my camaro at the dealers, cost me 80.00 CAD plus taxes, and let me tell you, it was like night and day on the car. It pulled like new, ran better in every aspect. The car sits every winter, so the gas in the lines doesn't help the cause at all either.
