4g93 doch turbo help

Hey.. Im from NZ and never owned a mitsubishi, until now. Managed to score a cheap but pretty mint condtion lancer GSR. duno what year but its gotta 4G93 in it, one of those 1.8L doch turbo guys.
I wanna do some work on the motor to get it going a bit harder then standard. I only just got the thing so i havnt done anything yet but its got a 2,1/2" exhaust and a pod filter lol.. My question is.

What should i do to the motor????? I want abit more power, but still keep it reliable. Should i bother with replacing gaskets,seals,plugs, leads, timing belt etc with new ones?? shit like that haha.. Any help appreciated....
