best type of suspension
Ok, i have a 96 3.8 bird. I figured i need new shocks because when i hit too hard of a bump or dip in the road i bottom out. I drive 5 miles of dirt road to school everyday then back and was wondering what kind of shock would give me the most for a comfortable ride with still enough support to keep from bottoming out. Or if i have to pick and choose i would go with comfort anything would help....thanks

Re: best type of suspension
KYB and QA1 are pretty good for non adjustable and adjustable but I also suggest tighening things up with a strut tower brace and subframes. That way you can get rid of the pesky roll as well.

I'd suggest you purchase stiffer springs. The springs are your "suspension" and they are what will keep you from bottoming out.
the shocks job is to keep the springs from bouncing up and down (like a pogo stick) this is why when you see cars with worn shocks, they're constantly bouncing up and down as they drive along. you mentioned you have a v-6 car. If you step up to WS-6 springs, this would probably be plenty adequate. you don't have the weight of a v-8 in the front so you probably won't need much more than this. Of course, a good set of shocks, and other support braces can compliment the supension for a great overall package. As for cost- you can pick up a set of ws-6 springs used for a decent price. check on ebay or at an f-body salvage yard like Billy graham salvage (not the evangelist!). Good luck!

Re: best type of suspension
putting on WS6 springs might be bad because they're so tight. you'll get a really rough ride, but you wont bottom out. if you change the shocks, you'll bottom out less because it slows the springs compression rate..by a little...? (Correct me if im wrong on that assumption).
