I have 96 Jetta 2.0 . I am having a problem with my engine light coming on and motor no starting in damp and rainy weather. I got the codes read at auto zone Code numbers P0440 Malfunction in Evaportive Emissions, And code p1580 Electronic Throttle Monitor PCm Override ????
If it does not rain out for a couple of weeks the light will turn off Car runs fine. What can this Be??? |

Re: Engine Light
I don't think it would be related to the EVAP code, but could be from the throtlle valve code. Make sure it isn't an ignition coil problem - spray water on the coil only & see if it has the same problem. Otherwise unplug the throttle valve electrical connector & clean the contacts. It may be difficult to restart after unplugging. Unfortunately, failure of the unit is common.

Re: Engine Light
I checked all connectors they look like new. I sprayed the coil and nothing. I hit the wires by the ditributer cap and the car shot right down and whould not start until the next day. Could it be the wires?

Re: Engine Light
Yes, pull the wires & look for corroded ends, cracks in the cap, etc....

Re: Engine Light
I can't find any cracks but I will try to change the wires and cap because it has the factory ones. What is the best ones to get for this car?

Re: Re: Re: Engine Light
OK a i found the thread with this code....it seems that the code p1613 comes up together w/p1580...even tho p1613 is bad communication with the computer..Im willing to bet that both codes clear when the ignition problem is fixed....
My car continues to run after its warmed up and starts when its warm..It did not rain today...i did have a problem with it losing power a couple times..Im thinking that it could be the cat..moreso then the ignition coil...however it does start then dies as long as my foot is off the gas..as soon as i take my foot off the gas it stalls till its warmed up..What ya'll think?? |
