The bar has been raised - 466whp 1zz

Hey.. just thought I'd bring this over here from newcelica.org. MWR has once again came through for the Celica community.. a new benchmark for the 1zz-fe.

I decided to have a little fun with our shop car since most of the tracks in this part of the country have closed. In the past I've only tuned on the dyno with pump gas (425whp max) because we never had a clutch that would hold more. We do now so I decided to add some C16 and see what she'd do.

At 30psi we saw 466whp. Not bad but the tuning at high boost is rough to say the least. I know there's more power to be had. Maybe I'll take another swipe at it. I'm happy for now. It's running well and I've actually driven it to work a couple of times this week. It's still extremely driveable and will scare the bujeezus out of you with the boost turned up. Unbelievably it still hooks up pretty well through 1st on the drag radials.

I was running reduced boost in the midrange to go easy on the clutch- it's heavy but still not heavy enough. During another pull earlier at about 28psi I was not cutting midrange boost and it made 394 ft-lb at the wheels. Dynapack does not correct torque so this would actually be 402 ft-lb corrected.

- Yes, it's a stock 1zz trans with a quaife. No, it hasn't broken yet despite our best efforts.
- Yes, it's the stock plastic intake manifold and it has not exploded yet.
- Yes, it's got its original girly little halfshafts.
- Yes, it's got the modified Toyota 2zz head gasket that we include with the big bore kits.
- Yes, it's still open deck. It won't be for next year though.
- Yes, I accidentally had the rev limiter set at 7400 on the last pull :thumbdown
- The Dynapack reads exactly the same as an honest Dynojet, for reference.
- Yes, that's really 535hp and 460 ft-lb at the crank
