Question Fastest drift YOU performed

Of course we all see the professional racing driver doing it at crazy speeds, but I was wondering, what is the fastest REAL (not a little bit of crazy shacking and squeeling - but one wich require at least 180 degree of steering correction) drift you performed ? Was it on snow or tarmak?

This will probably be a good way to compare how us "amateurs" (most of people on this forum anyway) rank between each others.

Re: Fastest drift YOU performed

not really into drifting (my 240 was stolen before i could get into it) but i was trying to do a U-turn and the light turned yellow before i could get through it, so i popped my clutch and whipped the wheel and took the turn at about 20-25mph, and held at least a 45 degree angle for a good 30-40 feet before i had to pull out of it.

Hmm, quick calculation. If 11.25 seconds on a 3/8th's mile track is equal to a 120mph average and my lap time was a 16.5.........

82mph lap average in a 305 sprint car at Attica Raceway Park.

Or, in other words, this. http://www.dirt-trackin.com/cinema/4_9_trial.wmv

wow!! this is incredible laya! The "305" seems to handle like a big go-kart! How would you compare their handling to a street car?

Violent, uncompromisingly violent.

A dsprint car is one ungodly machine. It's about 1400lbs of tube steel with an 88in wheelbase, no transmission and a big methanol fed, injected V8.

A 305 sprint is more limited than a full blown 410 Outlaw sprint. They use cast iron Chevy 305 engines (like out of a Malibu or Caprice) instead of aftermarket 410ci aluminum engines from Gaerte, Malcuit, Mopar, or any myriad of other builders. They also disallow a lot of the titanium and aluminum components that an Outlaw would run.

But they're still vicious. They change direction almost by telepathy. You leap into the corners sideways with blinding speed, keep the tail hung out as you ride either so close to the inside that you could grab a flag yourself or so close to the wall that you could grab a fan's Coke, and then explode down the straightaway just long enough to setup to do it again.

Now, the fun part comes when there's 24 other guys on track doing the same thing. Everyone works to pass everyone else by taking every imaginable line (and a few unimaginable lines) on the track. It's chaos, and it teaches you car control like nothing else.

Re: Fastest drift YOU performed

I was speeding and then a turn came out of no where so i had to think fast and since my car doesnt have ABS i slammed the brakes and then i started drifting at like a 70 degree incline and i held it through the turn until my tail jerked over too far and i had to regain control i almost hit the a pole doing this

Re: Fastest drift YOU performed

50mph in a Ford E250 Econoline 4.9L Inline Six cargo van.

Going down the freeway hit a patch of spilt diesel fuel, didn't know it was there till I hit the brakes for slowing traffic. The ass end started walking around on it's own.

The van was totally empty, so no weight over the rear... not really a drift but for about 100ft the ass end was kinda wandering around on it's own.

I didn't realise it was doing it, till about 5 minutes after it happened. I was too busy trying to dodge traffic. Then I thought back at what the Van was doing, and realised the ass wasn't inline with the front.

The hole time I had one hand on the wheel, the other holding my 7-11 Big Gulp. I shrugged it off as one of those "freak" things.

I hope to never do that again. Next time who know's what'll happen.. maybe I'll be paying attention and crash.

I'll do you one better... F-350 Dualy 6spd Turbo Deisel at the same speed

I was coming away from a stop light in the rain and I wanted to get going. I row though 1-2 and get to thrid and floor it. I started to see the RPM go up but not move (also felt it starting to yaw). I was like "wow, thats cool as hell but Im in the wrong place to be doing this (Highway in Traffic) so I go to 4th and floor it agian. so long story short

Decreased Traction
+
500ft.lbs of Torque
+
Solid Axle
+
Bump

=

Yaw in 4th gear going 45-50MPH in a truck with 4 drive wheels. For a second I thought "holy balls thats awsome..." but then again I realized I was in traffic. so let off and took it easy the rest of the way.

It obviously wasnt much angle like less than 5 degrees. But it was still enough to get my attention.

on another note... Rain Drift rocks... its so lame since you can completely fuck up everything and still look like a hero and not hit anything since your going so slow.

Re: Fastest drift YOU performed

The more dramatic, though slower one: Turn 6 at NHIS, about 55 MPH in my 1991 Ford Probe GT with hot front tires and cold rear tires. I had the back end come out at turn in, and at the exit had both rear wheels off track on the dirt. No, I didn't use the e-brake or any of the other standard drifting "cheats"

Faster, but less obvious: Turn 1 at Mid-Ohio at about 85 in my 1999 Mazda Miata. The back end of the car stepped out at turn in, and I just kind of held it there through the corner. Slightly more dramatic, later in the week the car did the same thing when I was trying to go through the corner flat out. The end result was a 720 spin through the grass on the outside of the corner. Pic in the middle of said spin:

In both corners, there is a slight crest just after turn in that causes the back end of the car to move around a bit, and the front end is compressing when the back end is getting light, amplifying the situation.

Re: Fastest drift YOU performed

20-25 mp/h vehicle speed or so, not tire speed, or else I would have an 100 mp/h drift to my credit.
