instrumentation lights HELP!!!

Hi there and first of all great forum, i own a 1999 Kia Avella (Ford Aspire) over here they sell them as Kia but the body is Ford and the engine is the same as the Aspire,
Anyway my instrumentation lights wont go on wirh i switch on the Dimm or the hearlights switch :-( and also the rear lights and the dimm don't function!
Mind you the headlights function and so do the break lights.
thus ..

Working when switched on >> headlights, break lights
Not Working when switched on >> Dimm lights, rear lights, instrumentation lights (indication lights work ok, Ex parking break, oil, all work),

also the hearlights some times take a while to switch on...

I took a look at the aspire manual and i think its the Parklights relay...

also i found no fuse blown..

any suggestions on how i can test this relay and how I'm sure that its's the right one??
BIG BIG thanks!!!!!

Re: instrumentation lights HELP!!!

Use a test light to determine if you are getting power through the fuse(s).
Test the headlamp switch (head lamp switch has two or three circuits running through it so turning on the headlights does not necessarily mean the switch is good) to determine if you are getting power through it.
Test the relay to see if it is functioning properly.
You will need a wiring diagram for your vehicle. If possible make an enlarged copy. Use a highlighter to trace the circuit. Then mark off components as you check them. Be methodical.
Start with items in the circuit that are easy to get to. Examples being fuses and relays.
Check plugs and connections to make sure they are not loose, burned, or coroded.

Re: instrumentation lights HELP!!!

okay I fixed it, was the bloody switch which I had read the post before coz I checked all 4 relays before proceeding to the switch thinking that its malfunction was highly un probable, I dismantled and cleaned the contacts, I really like my car but the electrics r total crap! I really don't think KIA or who ever passed this car's electrics ever heard of "wetting current",
any way thanks 4 your time.
