clutch questions
First how should my clutch cable be adjusted. I have an 89 crx si and when i got it the little black knob for the clutch cable was way loose. should it be hand tight. tight at all? or use a wrench to tighten it. second when i push in my clutch i hear a scraping shaving type of noise. at first i though it was my intake because it sounded just like it, but now im wondering if it isnt the little mettal rivets on my clutch like on breaks when they wear out too far and scrape the crap outa the roters. Any ideas?

the adjuster (under the batt.(91'vic dx)) should be hand tight. the peddal should have a little bit of play, about 1 inch of free movment. to tighten pull on the wire and turn the dial.

Re: clutch questions
i always adjust my clutch so that there is just a hair of free play in the pedal. basically, pull teh cable up until its tight and tighten the plastic nut thing down.
that noise is usually one of 2 things.. throwout bearing or input shaft bearing. throwout bearing comes with a clutch kit and the input shaft bearing is inside the tranny.. |

Re: clutch questions
I just had to change my input shaft it was only like 23 Euros (30$), It shouldn't even cost you that much in the states. As for clutch, I got the Exedy stage 2 and it works great, track or autobahn, and not a bad price on E-bay! Comes with clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing. Good Luck.

The distance for clutch engagement is too far away (meaning the pedal travels towards me a moderate distance before engaging the clutch). I drove my uncles Nissan 300zx TT and his engagement point is half the distance mine is. HOw do I adjust this? I'm looking at a Honda service manual and it doesnt say how to adjust the disengagement distance...just the free play (which is different)

Re: clutch questions
adjust it to how you like it, I usually adj it with an inch play before the arm touches the pp thats how I like it.

Re: clutch questions
yeah definetly sounds like either your pilot bearing or throw out bearing.
I had the exedy stage 1 clutch in my crx, and I loved it. It engaged directly off the floor and was awesome to drive with every day. Grabbed 2nd pretty hard as well. I think Ill go with that has more clamping force next time though.

Re: clutch questions
If You Tighten And There Is No Slack In The Cable Then The Clutch Will Release High(pedal) It You Adjust It To Have A Little Slack In The Cable Then It Will Release Low(pedal) I Adjust Mine To Release About 1 - 1 1/2 Inch From The Floor.

Re: clutch questions
If You Can't Afford A Performance Clutch Just Go To Advance Auto Parts And Buy A(perfection Clutch Kit) They Are Made From The Same People Of Zoom Clutches. Do Some Research And Save Money. Clutch Have Not Slip For Me Yet And I Have A Jdm Dohc Zc Turbo 190 Hp To The Wheel Or 220 Fly Wheel.

Re: clutch questions
Yep, I agree with the pilot or throwout bearing... More than likely its the throwout...
And Exedy is def a nice clutch... I have a stage 1 and also love it very much... |
