best engine for a 2002-2003

I am looking at buying a 2002 or 2003 used silverado. which engine has the best reputation, the 4.3, 4.8, or 5.3 . I want my truck to have good acceleration, not to be sluggish, but i don't need a ton of power to tow things. So which engine has the least problems, good power, and good reliability. Thank you for your opinion. I want a truck that is going to have few problems and one that will last a long time. Thanks

BRIAN

I think your best bet would be the 5.3l. Even though you say you don't need a lot of power for towing, you never know when you'll be loading up the bed with all kinds of stuff. The 5.3 from the factory gets about 17-18 mpg on the highway if you keep your foot off the gas and all the power you'll need. Both power and mpg can definitely be improved with a few simple mods if you want. The bottom line is better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it!

I have the 5.3l and have been very pleased. You may want to look at the 4.8l, as well/ It's not much smaller and may save you some money. Vnotaro is right, however. You never know when you may have to move something in the bed, not only towing.

hey thanks a lot for the fast replies, i really appreciate your opinions. the 5.3 sounds pretty good and i am leaning that way right now. plus the gas milage doesn't sound that bad, that's what i get right now with my '99 blazer 4.3L.

thanks, Brian
