97 Protege Transmission
I've got a 97 Protege LX. Its a 5 speed manual, and I wanted to know if I have Transmission fluid, or Gear Oil in the transmission. If its gear oil, then what weight? and How much would my transmission take?

The '97 LX 5 spd. with the 1.5 liter or 1.6 liter takes API GL-5 SAE 75W-90 gear oil with a capacity of 2.83 quarts. I highly recommend going with full synthetic gear oil as it will lubricate MUCH better in cold weather during the initial warm-up period. I also think it will provide better wear protection. I have 186K miles on my '95 with the original clutch and gearbox still working great using full synthetic gear oil changed every 60k miles or so.
