doesnt the 88 have diff splines than the 89-91 or is that just in the clutch and flywheel area?

Re: 91 tranny in 88 crx

I think I have read somewhere on here that the 88 models and their flywheels or clutches are different than the 89-91 crowd. But it also depends on if his crx is an hf. If so, the hf axels won't fit in the dx tranny. He'd have to get new axels and hubs. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: 91 tranny in 88 crx

the crx had a 4speed in it but it is a 16valve engine so if it was a hf wouldnt that be a 8 valve engine still just trying to figure if I just try axles or axles and knuckles.

Re: 91 tranny in 88 crx

Never heard of a crx with a 4 speed tranny. I thought all HFs had 5-speed. Perhaps it was replaced with a Civic STD tranny which has different engine and tranny than hf but same size axles and hubs. Not sure...

Re: 91 tranny in 88 crx

Thanks guys apparently signals got mixed with the mechanic it was a 21 spline clutch disc that would not go on the tranny because the tranny has 20 spline so I asked him to use a 89 clutch kit on the car he said it would take a diiferent flywheel is that true? because I thought 88-89 flywheel same he says the pressure plate wont work Im stumped I think I will go to wrecking yard buy 90 flywheel and a new 90 clutch and just telling him good to go that should work right?

Re: 91 tranny in 88 crx

if you tell him to buy all 90 parts like flywheel and the whole clutch setup, then yes it will work

Re: 91 tranny in 88 crx
