need help Troubleshooting blown sub

I have a Power acoustik Fubar 12W, running off of a 300W RMS SPL amp, 1.8 CUFt Sealed box. i was listening to music yesterday [volume 20 out of 35] when i heard a metalic noise, i thought something had come lose in my trunk and was banging against other shit, so i poped my trunk andi notice my woofer is vibrating, and it sounds blown. now when i say vibrating i mean it pulled 5 of the 8 screws out and was moving about this -- far out from the wood and then back in. i have no clue how the hell this happened, because the sub is rated for 800WRMS, the box is .05 CUFT bigger then spec. i have had the sub woofer for 8 days its been installed for 7. Does anyone have any ideas how the fuck this thing blew? the DVC both measure 3.92 Ohms, and the amp is fine. any ideas?

and any ideas on what i should do now? should i call power acoustik and see if they can do something? try to return it [i bought it @ my job, best buy, i know best buy sucks but i get a good discount] or should i get a new sub and say the hell with this one, and if so does any one have any suggestions? i dont have a ton of money to throw around but i want something to pound with.

any help is apreciated, i am extremly pissed and confused about this.

Yeah..It sounded like sh!t because it was no longer in a sealed enclosure, as it was rattling around. What size/type of wood did you use for the box? And how tight did you initially screw them in...I mean, did you screw them so tight that they stripped out, and just kept spinning?
Just screw them back in, do NOT use them same screw holes as before, and make 100% sure you don't overtighten them.

Re: Re: need help Troubleshooting blown sub

On a side note, when screwing a subwoofer into different holes, is it necessary to seal up the old holes?

Re: need help Troubleshooting blown sub

You can as a precautionary measure, but the subwoofer lip should adequately cover the previous holes.

Man i think its just the sub, not to sound like an ass against power acoustik but they have the rms way overrated on those subs i blew my friends with 250 watts, box was sealed no leaks sounded good for about a week then the damn thing melted the coil. They make good amps but there subs are horrible.

Don't ever look at cars as just imports or domestics. Just because a car is made in a certain country doesn't mean that it is anything like another car from that country. An example of this is Mitsubishi reliability, just because they are Japanese doesn't mean that they are as reliable as a Honda or Toyota.

There is always the possibility that it was a manufacturer's defect. However, I would be willing to bet that the reason for the coil frying was due to improperly set gains, which ended up sending a clipped signal to the sub and overheating the coils.

Re: need help Troubleshooting blown sub

No gain on the amp, older profile had the frequency set between 80 and 120, bass boost +8db and the power was set to 3/4 of the way up. Dual vc wired down to 2ohm 2 channel amp. We blew 2 of them like this and finally hooked up a lower rated infinity sub and it didnt even hurt it. I know for a fact that they over rate power on there subs as for quality im not sure how great it is.
