I have been experiencing a speedometer failure on my 2003 115 hp Jetta. At moderate to high speeds (60 to 70 mph) the speedometer pegs out, that is will not register a higher speed. If the cruise control is on, the car accelerates uncontrollably, if it is not on, the speedometer will not register a higher speed no matter what.
I have had the car in to the dealer twice, but they cannot locate a system fault on the computer, and did not see a problem on a test drive (probably at a lower speed). Any suggestions? |

vw uses a plastic ring on the differential to sense speed. The ring normally loosens or breaks off causing no speedo. (common failure on AUTO trans 4spd o1m trans)

I have the same problem with my 03. Has anyone else experienced this or had any luck with the advice from veedubmechanic?

It might be the speed sensor. My friend had the same problem and then the whole thing quit all together. He replaced the speed sensor a now it works fine.

Re: Speedometer Failure on 2003 Jetta
I had a similar problem on my 02 Jetta, which I recently got rid of. The best I could do was use my TomTom GPS which I could figure out my speed based on how my ETA arrival would change when I gave the car more or less gas.
