Warm Air Intake?

Been doin a shit ton of research on intakes. At first I wanted an Injen, then a Stillen Air Charger, blah blah the list continues.

One guy kept posting that a WAI was the best intake mod available.

Can anyone please explain what this is? And where do I get one?

Im leaning towards a frankencar short ram air at this point.

I am also considereing a Warpspeed Y-Pipe...can anyone give me any reviews on performance, installation, sound differences, etc.

i have a 95 gle stock

the downpipe on a 4th gen is shown to be the best bang for your buck mod and is said to add 15 whp. when i had my 95 maxima i bought my downpipe from a company in canada called Budget Exhaust. it was $250 canadian, which is like $170 US. i don't know if they're in business anymore, but but a y pipe is definitely the best mod for the money.

an intake is an intake, you're not going to see tremendous gains from one company over that of another so anything better than stock should do. i've heard that CAI's on a 4th gen cause a loss of performance on the top end due to all the extra piping. so unless you were to equip a VI to compensate, you're better off buying a WAI.

Hell, I made my own WAI for about $10 total in materials ($3 for a 2' long piece of 3" diameter ABS pipe, $6.50 for a 3" to 2" flexible drain coupling to attatch the ABS to the TB, and .50 cents for the nuts and bolts to attach the K&N filter to the MAfS)...works just as effectively for like 1/10th of the price of buying one from injen...go home depot!

My guess is that vibration kills the MAF resistors. Thereby the installation should be very flexible: attachement to chassis wia rubber bits, the air tube engine coupling - flexible.

As engine always makes sudden moves & vibrates, all attachement to the outer arc 'takes in all' vibrations causing MAF to vibrate. The 3gen VGE tube's MAF end sits near the center of this arc, and thus is mechanically positioned to near 'neutral' point (from engine movement). It may have longer life span b/c of that. (Otherwise, from airflow point of view, its the worst 'ever' fabricated...)

From this viewpoint, later Maxima engine models's MAF air tube coupling is suspect conduct to engine vibrations to MAF, and thus cannot be too flexible. There exists nowadays marvellous (silicone?) super flexible hosing possibilities in the raw materiel shops.

warpspeed y will be perfect, stick with stock unless you want a warm air intake like the injen. injen looks the best but if you have to have one go with frankencar imo.

Is there much difference between the Cold air intake and Warm air intake? I am up between the Cattman CAI with Monsterflow filter or the Berk intake (seems exactly like the frankencar) with the Apex'i filter. I like looks of the Berk better, but if there is much of a difference I'll go with the CAI. Anyone know about these?

what do you think the performance gains will be.

if im at 190hp/205 now and run like 7.3-7.5 to 60mph...what will the gains be like for the frankencar and warpspeed y?

like 210hp/???tq and how quick to 60?

the power to weight seems to change considerably...any ideas would be awesome.

if you figure you make about 175 whp stock, you'll probably see around 200 whp, mostly due to the y pipe.

it shows gains as high as 30 hp in some areas on a stock 95 5 speed from just a y pipe, it gives an extra 15-20 ft-lbs of tq too. best bang for your buck you can get on a 4th gen. it's worth every penny.

actually, it was street racer 00 with the DIY intake. i had an intake on and due to MAFS problems i went back to the stock airbox.
