B20b Block w/gsr head

Right now i have a blown b18c1 block and i'm thinking bout buying a b20b block and using it with my b18c1 head. Will this combo work and is it a good idea to do and would i get better numbers putting a turbo or going n/a. I race my car at da tracks every so often but i really don't know all the ins and outs on how to go about it. Is there anyone out there that can help me out with some advice. Thanks a lot

Question Re: Re: B20b Block w/gsr head

yeah, i blew da motor. I was burning oil but have not found that reason yet. I will be taking da motor out soon but i was thinking about getting a b20b block and doing that with a turbo instead of rebuildig my motor and making that turbo but i wanted to if it would be a good idea to do that with my gsr and if the numbers would be worth it. i need some suggestions on this. thanks

Re: B20b Block w/gsr head

a gsr motor is much better for boost than a B20..... how did you blow the motor? What is wrong w/ it, because if the GSR engine is salvageable, that'd be my choice!!

and as far as boost..... read http://www.beesandgoats.com/boostfaq/g2icturbo.html

Re: B20b Block w/gsr head

compression and leakdown to isolate the problem on the b18c. if the head is salvagable, buy a new b18c shortblock and put the old head on the new.

Re: B20b Block w/gsr head

did you punch a hole in the block....crack it in half....or what? It should be salvageable unless you really kicked the crap out of it!

it sounds like rod knock. Everytime i rev it up it sounds like a loud rattling noise in the block

Re: B20b Block w/gsr head

spun a crank bearing.....that doesn't mean you have to replace the block......

Re: B20b Block w/gsr head

it would probably be a rod not a crank bearing

have someone look at it before you go and spend money on a new block and time on putting it all together...
