Would you recommend?
Hi I'm actually here for my girlfriend...who's looking to get a new cheap hatchback within the week (rental car till Friday). Her Cavalier was recently put under 4.5 feet of water...totalled obviously. Luckily she had full coverage so its not that bad...but anyway, getting a new car. She test drove a 2005 LS sedan on Saturday, but its been impossible to find an LT (need the ABS in Minnesota) automatic hatchback up here, so now trying to get an '06. And we hated the salesman too...kept being very misleading about the only car that fit our requirements within 200 miles...said it had cruise, which we made him go check his dealer books and it actually didn't, said it had 15 inch wheels, which they don't until the 2006 model, and insisted that the car was a Chevy, despite the fact that we knew from online research that it was a Daewoo. Granted, not the only car we have been looking at...I test drove a Scion xA...2004 used however, and costs $2k more than one brand new...though ideally that would have been our top choice.
She needs a car with great gas mileage (from what I have read...the Aveo isn't even that great for a tiny car...a bit unimpressive, ain't no Ford Aspire or Suzuki Swift), preferably a very compact hatchback (needs to be small so she can parallel park it easily in Minneapolis), and it needs to be reliable. But she thinks the Aveo is cuter than the Scion and is okay with the gas mileage, and doesn't want to wait until November for an 06 xA, so my only question is...have any of you thought twice about your purchase? I used to drive a Ford Aspire (made by Kia), as did my dad, both of which were very reliable cars for the 10+ years they'd been on the road (my dad got his new in 94, it got wrecked this year and he junked it, I got mine used in 2002, got totalled a year and a half later by a big truck...but I only paid $1900 for it and survived without injuries), and currently drive a 99 Kia Sephia, just need something for her that gets the best mpg for the money, and I'm also going to eventually want to replace my Kia with a more quiet efficient vehicle but I have the money to make payments on a car right now. I like my Kia okay (at least until my 15 year old cousin backed into it), but its kinda loud and cheap feeling, and its not very cute (an important factor for her), so I probably would not buy another one. |

Re: Would you recommend?
I just recently purchased a 2004 Aveo and I absolutly love it (although not as good as my gas guzzling truck).. Yes, the gas mileage is a little weak but that didn't bother me.
First, I test drove the car about 4 different times at the same dealer and drove it about 100 miles. I also tested other cars such as the honda insight, toyota prius (which was a little expesive for me and don't want to buy a hybrid since i don't know much about them and parts are probably really expensive and hard to find expecially if the car is not out long). I alos drove the ford focus, (not a bad car but for some unknown reason was turned away) and same with the dodge neon. It test drove alot smother than the other cars and was cheaper then all the other ones too. (And I mean the car is smooth for the price) It doesn't even feel close to driving a cheap car. (although all I drove in the past was trucks) Also to let you know i drive alot on dirt roads and no dust enters the cab even with the outside vent button pushed because it has an Air filter behind the glove box that Filters all the air that comes out of the front vents, wheter its out side or inside. It has a fairly descent alarm system on it and I belive on the 06 that it requires the main key to start because the key responds to the computer telling it a code which is required to start the vehicle but Im not sure so ask someone that knows, not the sales guy. As for the radio, I got the am/fm/cd/mp3 player. It sounds really great and looks awsome at night and you won't be over run by to many fetures like some radios. It even has a 6 disk changer plug already installed in the back of the unit. (Got curius and took the dash apart, insterment cluster and center console behind the shifter, which houses the alarm and the air bag modual) The car also looks fairly easy to work on under the hood and is not too over run with electrical equiptment. I expecially like how it looks at night in the cab because its not too cramed with fetures, everthing is clearly visible and the green dash glow looks awsome. I drove it the other nigh on a smooth highway at 80mph and didn't feel or barly hear a thing (had radio off). It was so smooth, my girlfriend said it felt like we were flying in a very quiet plane. As for the options, It comes with all i needed. Power windows, power door locks (with remote built on the key, air conditioner, 14' alumunum rims, foldable rear seats. Also a neet feture is you can't lock the drivers door unless you use the remote or key. You can't even push it down manually. That way you won't get locked out. Also, if you activate the alarm and then unactivate it, If a door is not open, it will re-activate (like if you by accident push the unlock button on the remote while putting the keys in your pocket, it will lock and rearm in like a minuit. FYI (To help inform you a little more, I paid only $9000 for it with only 13000 miles and almost a like new warrenty, with all these fetures, I couldn't go wrong.) Also make sure if you buy a good used one, look it over real well, car fax it, because after huricane Rita and Katrina, we are going to have all kinds of lemon cars out there. You can even ask the chevy dealer to print off a history of warrenty and recall repair work for you, and if they say they can't, they are lying because I have my report that explaines repair history and eveything the warrenty covers. I would suggest getting the aveo with the trunk and not the hatch back although the hatch back looks alot more sporty. The the one with the truck has alot more space in it than the hatch back (I really didn't want to have to fold down the seats every time I put something back there or haveing the back seats full of stuff I don't use while I drive that work great in the trunk. Secondly, sometimes i carry stuff i don't want people to see what i have (like real expensive tools, laptops, or that suspisus looking black brieff case that has nothing in it.) Although i know they can brake in and pop the truck, If they can't see it, they probably won't steel it. Also, I don't feel comfertable with the rear bumber almost 2 feet closer to the back seat than the one with the trunk. (for the pasengers sake, go look how close it really is.) Call me paranoid but i got rear ended by another truck in my truck at 35mph and has made me think of what it would have done to my car (alothouh it only bent my frame a little due to the large hitch reciver that extends a foot farther than the bumber. Imagin, the bumber didn't even get bent) Any way traveling off the subject. I Know exactly what you mean when you drive a car and it feels really "cheap" (vibrates at 60+, loud, somewhat poor handling at high spees and just overall looks cheap. I promis you won't get that feeling in the aveo. If you have any questions about it that i didn't cover, please post it. Also, if you learn anything from the 06 hatchback and new 06 fetures,if you get it, post it, im curius. Dang, Ill shut up and quit typing, |

Re: Would you recommend?
I would say go for it! I think she will love her Aveo once she gets in it and drives it knowing it is hers. Car is a lot of fun as I have stated in other posts and is also sharp looking with minor modifications!
