Motor Noise... Where's It Coming From?
When I unlock my doors or open them I hear a motor in the rear end of my car... however, I have no idea what it is that's humming.
I know that most jetta's have the rear retractable antenna... but I'm not sure if the 96's do or not. My antenna, despite all this, is at the front of my car. I don't know if it's tthe OEM or not. Probably not though cuz my radio reception sucks. Could it be the remaints of a past antenna? Or is it something else? Sounds like a motor in the trunk, behind the back seats, but I don't see anything. Just wondering...  |

That would be the motor in the trunk. If you take off the carpet that covers the trunk you will see the mechanism.

It's a vacuum pump for the locks on your doors and such.
