. ppl say zc is an easy ass swap, with just wireing to hold u up, but people say with a little extra werk, a vtec motor would kick some serious ass ... i was wonderin how much more werk is it? and what is involved in this crazy operation? anyone have detailed instructions? any help is appreciated !!!

Re: std hatch swap dohc zc or b16 vtec??? help !
Go B16 all the way. its a little more work than the ZC but you'll love it in the long run. if yours is the 4spd, you will need the hubs out of an Civic/CRX Si, 90-93 Teg axels, B series Shift linkage, mount kit and probably some more i cant think of. good luck!

zc's are trash and hard to find parts for sometimes.
go with a b series. if you ask some more specific questions ill be more than happy to answer them. i've done numerous b and d series swaps, and I can walk you through either one, you can hit me up on aim as well.

Go B16a if you have the money. It isn't that hard. I did my car in my driveway in the spring. There were a few issues but there always are the first time you do anything.

I prefer the ZC. Mine was cost effective, has been reliable and bolted right in. I totally disagree with the ZC being trash. I don't think Honda Builds any trash motors. They were each designed for specific purposes.
I suppose it boils down to how much money you're willing to spend, what kind of performance you're after and how much modification you're willing to do on your car. |

Re: std hatch swap dohc zc or b16 vtec??? help !
b16 over zc. Yea zc's are okay motors i guess if your really not wanting to go that far with it but the aftermarket support is not that strong. In the end i think it came to 2300 for avid linkage, avid mounts, avid axles, hmotorsonline.com b16 with ys1 transmission. Then you have some wiring to do. You have to do a mpfi wiring conversion and then wire up the b16. So in the end if you put the motor in yourself and wiried it yourself you would pay something like 2600 in the end ( new timing belt, water pump, ect) but if not a shop might charge around 300 to 600 or so to do the vtec wiring and the mpfi wiring.
For the zc, you need to do a mpfi wiring conversion and then run 2 wires to the part on the end of the exhaust cam(sorry cant remeber what it is), a si throttle cable, and a couple other things.
