please help me stop clutch/transmission noise!

I just bought a 1992 S-10 with 4.3L engine and 5-speed transmission. It ran great at first, but after ~150 miles it is making several bad noises:

'whirring' sound when in neutral, clutch engaged.
winding sound when accelerating through gears, especially 1-3

The clutch does not seem to be slipping (smooth RPMs with acceleration). With the clutch dis-engaged there is no noise. I've checked the fluid in master cylinder. I have a Hayne's manual, but it has no pictures that match my truck so it is kind of hard to get a grasp of what could be wrong. I'm not that familiar with manual transmissions, so if anyone can tell me what to check for it would help. Thanks,

Take it to a" quikee-lube" place(or some other shop) and have the lube level checked in the transmission, may be low. Sounds like trans gear/bearing probs though. Maybe the reason the previous owner sold it?
