Personally I would use Mobil 1. Royal Purple is not a true synthetic. I have used there Fuel injector cleaner and their oil. I mean it is a much better choice then conventional oil but I would stick with 5 quarts of Mobil 1 for under $20 any day then spending $5.99 a quart for Royal Purple. Oh and incase you are wondering....... The oil is purple.

Re: Royal Purple products
Not to mention Castrol GTX has all of the same properties of Royal Purple for half the price, easily. Same goes for Havoline organic oils, and Dollartree available Phillips Trop Artic Semi-synthetic blend. All have similar origins, being a super-clean petroleum base. They only differ slightly when it comes to the concentration of certain chemical additives. Royal Purple has a ton of Moly in it. But you can again, bolster up a "cheap" GTX fill with Valvoline Synpower Oil Treatment (As mentioned in the Synthetic thread) or go for broke and pick up a $23 5-quart Jug of Mobil-1 which is completely synthetic for "real" for it is not derived from petroleum stock at all, and similarly treating it with the Valvoline product. Your wallet and truck will thank you for it.
(I am oversimplifying many details, but do feel free to ask, it's fun!)

Re: Royal Purple products
A note on the Drive-Clean products:
They are a combination of synthetic additive packs in an organic oil base. You may be better served by trying a run on a Shell Rotella-T synthetic or organic formulation in 10w-30 (There is no 10w-30 in the synthetic, only 15w-40 as far as I know) for a 5,000 mile run. At the end, drain it when hot, then fill yerself up on the Mobil-1. I say this because the run on Rotella is going to seriously clean up the engine and since it is made for "Mixed fleet" (An HDEO oil) it can safely eat up and suspend waste particles that may bypass your filter during this cleaning phase. Once the engine is cleaned out this way, you'll gain maximum benefits of the fresh Mobil-1 synthetic straight out of the bottle. But your first run on Mobil-1's going to finish doing the cleaning. I would not go more than 7K miles on the first fill up on Mobil-1 so no need to go for the "Extended Performance" stuff juuuuuust yet. Then after that, refill with a 5 quart Extended Performance badged Mobil-1 jug and drive to your heart's content. The Mobil-1 will then maintain your engine's cleanliness and smooth operation when changed at 10-12K mile intervals with a spin-on oil filter replacement every 6-7K miles in between complete changes. Good luck! Oh, and please recycle you waste oil products as much as you can if you're a do-it-yourselfer. Ciao! |

Re: Royal Purple products
Just go to Mobil 1 synthetic bud, far better results.
