Intermittent stop lamps
A customer of mine has this '94 Cutlass Supreme that has an intermittent operation of her stop lamps. I replaced the stop lamp switch but the lamps continue to work and then not work. The bulbs are good. The turn signals work, the tail lamps work etc. Also the high mount stop lamp assembly works everytime. Being a mechanic and having access to shop manuals and wiring diagrams it seem that the circuit for the stop lamps are divided along two routes. One breaks off to the high-mount stop lamp and the other goes through the turn signal/hazard switch.
It does seem to have allowed the stop lamps to work when we played with the turn signal switch lever. Not real sure though. These intermittents are killers! Has anybody else experienced this on a similar car? I don't want to replace the switch and charge her heavy-duty labor if this doesn't solve the problem. Maybe I have no choice? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Also almost guaranteed-- buy a spare cancelling cam if anybody needs to change out the turn signal switch on these GM models. Everytime they break where the horn wire/spring are attached. Hope this helps with others who go this route. |

Go to GM buy the turn signal assby. thats in the column, just bought one for my 94 conv. cost was about $85.00. This will fix your problem,
its one of the more common things to go bad on these cars, as I had the same problem with mine. Good Luck and hope this helps. |

Thanks 91gsx I thought it was the the turn signal switch. I've bought GM Delco switches for these cars for $42.00 from Rockauto.com. That $85 seems pretty high. The option is electrical assy. pkg. which I believe was an option back then for steering wheel controls. Most of this era '94-'95 don't have them. Thanks again, Formzy
