Re: what do stages mean?

Different companies sell different upgrades for turbo kits. Mostly it's just an upgrade in the size of the turbo. Some companies might include upgraded parts like bov's, intercoolers, etc; all to increase power or efficiency of the turbo kit. If there's a specific turbo or turbo kit you read about, you should check out their web site for more details on it.

Stages are purely subjective.

In general stages can go up to whatever the manufacturer wants. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a stage 10.

There are some "stage 5 cams" out there, basically just a bid to beat out stage 4 I guess...

Re: what do stages mean?

i think a lot of that is due to the video game culture....most car games like NFSU2 and GT3 both say things in terms of stages; therefore companies are going to market towards them.

some companies and/or turbo manufacturers offer different complete turbo kit options depending on thier customer's needs. for example, rev hard offer three stages; stage 1 produces around 75 hp, stage 2 is efficient to 450hp, and stage 3 produces 550+hp.
