reviving a 53 imperial

I have this car Im thinking about buying but prior to doing so I want to get it turned over, i went and bought a new 6 volt battery and tried turning it over, and it wouldn't. The engine isn't locked up so IM thinking either the starter or ignition switch any other ideas. It has a hemi 331. oh and I know its a 6 volt from the alt

Question Re: reviving a 53 imperial

If this Imperial is original , it will have a generator instead of an alternator . When you installed the new battery , did it do anything ? Unusual noises or smells ? Did the engine turn over at all ? You could have a bad starter , bad wiring ( almost guaranteed ) , a bad ignition switch , bad battery cables , or a host of other possibilities . You say the engine isn't locked up ? Did you turn it over by hand or...? Give us more specific details .
