Ticket for Spinning Tires

Hi,

My name is Troy, i'm 16, and i'm a complete idiot.

I live in Illinois, if that matters at all. I've never been pulled over before. My friend was following me at approx. 2:00 a.m. sunday morning (which was about 2 hours ago). I decided to show off by spinning my tires. I did it twice, once around a corner and once at a stop sign. I get pulled over and 30 minutes later i get back my insurance card, however the cop keeps my drivers lisence. I supposebly get it back whenever i pay for my ticket. I really don't see a way for me to fight this, because the cop saw both of my "actions" and they are both listed on my ticket, so i'm most likely pleading guilty. How many points will be awarded to my lisence? Is there any way to avoid getting points? Is there any way i can get this off my record? What the hell should i do to avoid higher insurance prices? What the hell should i do? Any chance that i can keep this from my parents? Help Please!

First off, tell your parents as soon as possible. Two reasons, first: they have probly been around the block a few times and can help you out with this. Second, and most importantly, when they find out (and they pay your insurance, they will find out) that you tried to hide it from them, they are going to take your car away. Your parents will have more respect for you if you fess up to your responsibility than if you try to run from your problems.

I would challenge the ticket but take a plea bargain if its there. It never hurts to challenge it. Have your parents show up with you and dress nicely and show up on time (this is very important, because if your late, you can be arrested and fined). Treat the judge and cop (if he shows) with respect. This is your first ticket so he might let you off with a driving class to get the points taken off your record and therefore, cost you less on your insurance.

I think your gonna have to suck it up and pay the ticket though. I'm not gonna preach about what a stupid driver you are because I too know that it is a lot of fun doing things that are less than legal in a car Just a helpful tip though, dont do it in the open on busy streets that are likely patrolled and don't do it excessively. Keep it safe.

I don't know how it is in Illinois, but here in Washington I've never heard of anyone ever having their liscence held until they pay the ticket. Im not even entirely sure its legal to do that but he's a cop so he probly knows better than I do...

Re: Ticket for Spinning Tires

I know what you could do.
1. Like he said tell your parents it will be better in the long run.
2. Dont stay out so late. Im not your father but when a cop sees a young kid that late at night he thinks your trouble.
3. Dont drive like such a moron.

Dude your a moron. U asked what to do and i told u follow what that guy says. You wont have much pull in court due to the fact that the officer saw you do it twice.

Give the kid a break, we were all young once, we've all been there. At least it was at 2:00 in the morning when no one was around and not in the middle of the day with all kinds of traffic. I say tell your parents and don't sweat it, just be careful!

Thank you very much. I came on here for advise on what to do, not to be told i'm a "moron". I know what i did was completely stupid, if you would of read a little more carfully, i explained that in the first sentence. Also, i can guarentee there isn't one person that hasn't spun their tires, whether on purpose or accident. I have two parents that bitch at me and tell me i'm stupid, i don't need another one unless its to give me advise. Thanks for all the help so far. I have told my dad. He was a little pissed, more about the fact that the insurance might go up, but he really doesn't care that much. Wish me luck!

Re: Ticket for Spinning Tires

I apologize for the comments. I was giving you advise like you asked and you come back with a smart ass remark. All i said was telling you from experience that youll have no pull in court. And by the way i also have spun up my tires. However i made sure no one was around.

Your braggin about breaking the law and not getting caught? It was 2 in the morning...NO ONE was around be me and my friend, and a cop lurking in the shadows . So far you haven't given me any advise that is usable except for "don't stay out so late", however i'm hardly ever out that late, except for that night because i was at a birthday party and i had to go home. I also said that i had no chance in court, so i'm asking for an alternative. Don't bother responding if you just want to argue. I got enough problems right now.

I'd be inclined to advise the judge that it was stupid, you know now that it is unsafe. Point out to him that you were NOT under the influence (if that's the case) and apologize. Best you can do, hope for a lighter sentence.

And if you ask for advice, don't be upset when you get it.

Re: Ticket for Spinning Tires

well I don't see name calling and put downs as advice, everyone has opinions but how can you judge when you have done the same thing. Hell I've done it, I had a bad speeding problem as a kid, I always did it safely, and I did get pulled over multiple times, yes I deserved it, but it did teach me a lesson. I'm sure the kid will be more careful, we all have a little too much fun somtimes and it costs us. Live and learn.

Ha, cool; he probably would have let you get away with it if it had only been once.
